Below is a list of our physicians and physician assistants, as well as pictures, biographies and additional information to help you choose the right doctor.

Each physician at Alameda Family Physicians is Board Certified in the specialty of Family Practice. This certification requires three years of training specialty beyond medical school in Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, and Obstetrics.

Our Physicians



John Carper, MDJohn Carper, MD
John Carper, MD, FAAFP received his undergraduate degree from Stanford and went to medical school at UC San Francisco. He did his Family Practice residency training at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital and Mercy Medical Center in Redding, California. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Special medical interests include Obstetrics and Newborn Care. He and his lovely wife and children enjoy being a part of the Alameda community.



 


Edward Chan, MD
Edward Chan, MD, was born and raised in Oakland and obtained his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley.  He then attended the Chicago Medical School and completed his Family Practice Residency through the Stanislaus Family Medicine Residency in Modesto.  After Residency, Edward practiced in Modesto for 7 years, working for a nonprofit organization providing medical care to underserved areas.  During that time, Edward developed his Spanish-speaking skills.  Edward is excited to be returning to the Bay Area and continuing to practice Family Medicine, especially Obstetrics.  He enjoys spending time with his amazing wife and two wonderful children.  Go Bears!  

 


  

Mary Fisher, MD
Mary Fisher, MD did her undergraduate work at UC Berkeley and then lived in Alameda for several years doing research with Roche Molecular Systems. She then attended University of Southern California School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa. She is delighted to return to Alameda to practice Family Medicine, including Obstetrics. She speaks Spanish and also enjoys travel, folk dancing, and knitting.

 






Maryam Kermani, MD
Dr. Kermani is the newest addition to Alameda Family Physicians. She attended Baqai Medical College in Pakistan before finishing her residency at the University of California, San Francisco Family Practice Program in Fresno, CA. Dr. Kermani is multilingual, speaking English, Hindi, Urdu, and Arabic. Her professional interests include working with a diverse group of patients, and providing continuing care to family members. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, plus travel, theatre, and exploring our beautiful Bay Area.


 


 



William Sellman, MD
William Sellman, MD graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio and received his Family Medicine training at University Hospital of Cleveland and Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, California. He practiced in California and New Zealand before joining Alameda Family Physicians. Dr. Sellman speaks Spanish and enjoys practicing a broad spectrum of family medicine. Dr. Sellman is married and lives in the East Bay.

 





Lilian Tsao, MD
Lilian Tsao, MD is originally from Maryland and received her undergraduate degree at University of Virginia. After attending medical school at Tufts University in Boston, she moved to Southern California and completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Her family resides in the Bay Area and she looks forward to establishing herself in Alameda. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and her medical interests include adolescent and women's health as well as the full breadth of Family Medicine.



    
Bhoomika Kamath, MD
Bhoomika Kamath , MD is thrilled to join Alameda Family Physicians. She attended the Patil Medical College in Mumbai. She then commenced her internship at the USC/ California Hospital Program in Los Angeles, and completed her Residency training at the Stanislaus Residency Program in Modesto. Dr Kamath enjoys the broad spectrum of medicine that family medicine offers, and the ability to take care of not just individual patients but families. In addition, she has a special interest in women’s health and geriatrics. When she isn’t working, she loves cooking, making jewelry, and spending time with her husband and son. 

 


  

Our Physician Assistants

Physician Assistants (PAs) are healthcare professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive healthcare, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions. Within the physician-PA relationship, Physician Assistants exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Our Physician Assistants have extensive training and clinical experience, and maintain a close consultative relationship with our physicians.

 

Erica Chong, PAC
Erica Chong, PAC received her undergraduate degree from UC San Diego. She then received her graduate degree from Baylor College of Medicine Physician Assistant program. Areas of interest include women's health and diabetes. In her free time she enjoys foreign travel, outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.

  



Catherine Egelhoff, PAC
Catherine Egelhoff, PAC received her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, and then graduated from the George Washington University Physician Assistant program in Washington, D.C. She enjoys the full range of Family Practice Medicine. She and her husband live in Alameda and have three great sons.

 





Karen Kline, PAC
Karen Kline, PAC graduated from the St. Francis College Physician Assistant program in Loretta, PA. She has worked in Family Practice and Internal Medicine. Areas of medical interest include Women's Health, Ophthalmology and Pulmonary disease. Besides medicine, she enjoys photography and spending time with her family.





Nancy Shaw, PACNancy Shaw, PAC
Nancy Shaw, PAC grew up in Chicago and did her undergraduate work at Rice University and then graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine Physician Assistant program. She has worked in family practice, woman's health, urgent care and geriatrics. She is interested in care for chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma. She has two grown children and four cats.
